How to use the physical presence calculator - Form CIT 0407

Form CIT 0407 is a worksheet that is used to calculate the physical presence in Canada. Permanent Residents over the age of 18 must meet the residency requirement to be eligible for Citizenship. Form CIT 0047 must be included as supporting evidence as part of the CIT 0002E Citizenship application.

Requirements to apply for Canadian Citizenship

You may apply for Canadian Citizenship using form CIT 0002E if you:

  • Are 18 years of age or older (minors can apply for Citizenship using Form CIT 0003E)
  • Are permanent resident of Canada
  • Meet the residence requirements: have been physically present in Canada for at least four of the six years immediately before the date of your application (1460 days)
  • Can understand, speak and communicate in one of Canada’s two official languages: English or French (adults over the age of 65 are exempt)
  • Understand the rights, responsibilities, and privileges of citizenship (adults over the age of 65 are exempt)

Those individuals that have committed a crime in or outside Canada may not be eligible to apply for Canadian citizenship for a period of time.
